As human beings, we experience negative thinking from time to time. This thinking can quickly become toxic and hold us back from experiencing the beauty and gift of life.

Which way can we get rid of the mind’s negative thinking?

Guru Teghbahadar Sahib, in the second composition of Ramkali rag (musical mode), reflects: Which method may be used now? By which all false thinking may be destroyed, and the mind may be drenched in the devotion of Ram, the Beautiful Charming One.

We pause.
We reflect.

It is not enough to get rid of negative thinking; we need to replace the negative, unfocused mind with something good that will make this life fruitful.

What is that something good?

Devotion.
Devotion to Ram, the Beautiful, Charming One.

The Guru continues, One who enshrines the Nam in the heart with a focused mind, even for a moment during the night and day, their fear of death goes away, and they make their life fruitful.

When Nam, Identification with IkOankar, 1Force, the Charming Beautiful One, can live in our hearts for even a moment; when we can feel it even for a split second, the fear of death is erased and life becomes beautiful. These tiny moments of connection are what change our consciousness. We get that glimpse; we taste that sweetness.

Will our negative thinking change?
Will our behavior change?

May we yearn to feel Nam.
May the Wisdom-Guru guide us!
