The Guru Granth Sahib Project

Sikh Research Institute Presents

The Guru Granth Sahib Project

With the help of The Guru Granth Sahib Project, people from all around the world will build a deeper connection to bani that they couldn't before. For increasing generations of Sikhs in the diaspora who do not consume Panjabi content, and even for those who are literate in Panjabi, but haven't grasped the depth and full context of the Guru Granth Sahib, this initiative will unlock new connections to Sikhi for coming generations.

A Global Translation and Transcreation Initiative

The Guru Granth Sahib is not being consulted for its potential benefit to humanity, largely due to its inaccessibility.

Our team is translating based on research. They’re looking at the root and etymology of every word of every sentence and from there on, they are building meaning from context.

Tradition — Instead of working on the Guru Granth Sahib from cover to cover, the project will follow the tradition of working by Bani.

Collaboration — This is an unprecedented transcreation project, requiring new modes of collaboration through digital solutions.

Annotations — Much of the work will be in making annotations on the Panjabi side, which will then fuel the trans-creation in English.
