Join us as Amardeep Singh shares his journies and experiences on Exploring the Sikh Legacy in Pakistan & the Social-Cultural Impact of the Partition. During a personal visit to Pakistan in 2014, a journey that took him across 36 cities and villages, Amardeep felt it was important for posterity to document his explorations. In Jan 2017, he undertook another journey, traveling extensively to 90 cities and villages across Sindh, Balochistan, Pakistan Administered Kashmir, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Panjab.
Amardeep has documented these journies to motivate all communities to become aware of their past and, through it, learn to live in harmony.
This shared journey will be followed by a Q&A moderated by Guntaas Kaur, Advisory Council, SikhRI.

Exploring Sikh Legacy in Pakistan: A visual talk that shares the motivation and the need to document for posterity, a legacy that churned in the lands that became Pakistan.

Socio-Cultural Impact of the Partition: A visual talk that evaluates the remnants across Pakistan and provides insights into the mindset of the past generation and compares it to where we stand today.

About the Speakers:

Guntaas Kaur, from Metro Vancouver, is a 2014 Sidak Alumni and brings with her over 15 years of experience working on local Sikh issues. Among her passions are human rights, international law & conflict, gender issues, world religions & strengthening inter-community dialogue – particularly between Canada's Sikh & Indigenous populations. Guntaas holds a BA(Hons) in Political Science & International Relations from Carleton University and an MA(Merit) in Peace & Conflict studies from the University of Bradford (UK) – where she explored the on-going need for formal conflict resolution in Punjab today post-1984. In 2011, Guntaas became the first Sikh-Canadian to participate in the Minorities Fellowship at the UN High Commission for Human Rights in Geneva, Switzerland. Recently, she graduated from Law School at the University of Exeter (UK) and is excited to practice in British Columbia soon. Guntaas also serves on the World Sikh Organization of Canada’s (WSO) National Board.
