For the curious and open-minded.

Join us for an afternoon of coffee and tea as we learn about our speakers. Painter, poet, and CEO of SikhRI, Inni Kaur, and painter, Kanwar Singh (Art of Punjab), will discuss how Sikhi has shaped their journeys in life as artists.

The event will be moderated by Rapinder Kaur, an Art Therapist.

Kanwar Singh has been engaged in the process of art making for as long as he can remember. He is influenced by a host of painters such as Sobha Singh, Amrita Shergill and other celebrated Sikh artists as well Western masters such as Caravaggio, Rembrandt and Turner. It wasn’t until he started to take an interest in the history behind his own Sikh faith that his art took a definitive turn for the better. His paintings cover the lives of the ten Sikh Gurus, periods of heroism and turbulence when Sikhs challenged and eventually expelled both the Mughal and Britsh Empires. His work looks to find a balance between his love for painting, for which he is committed to achieving a high level of excellence and to justly represent Sikh history inspired by a growing devotion to his faith.

Rapinder Kaur is particularly drawn to the concept of Sovereignty, which is a central idea in Sikh philosophy. A Registered Psychotherapist and Art Therapist, activist and facilitator, she is fascinated with the idea of using art to disrupt traditional thinking and imagining new possibilities for engaging in the world. Rapinder is passionate about individual empowerment and is honoured to have had the opportunity to work with people of all ages, many of whom have been through great adversity, by supporting them to realize their true potential. For over a decade, Rapinder has run expressive arts workshops in the community. Rapinder strongly believes that art has the potential to change lives and often in profound ways. When words are not enough, people can turn to images and symbols to tell their story and in telling their stories through art, they can find a path to health and wellness, emotional reparation, recovery, and ultimately, transformation
