Vahiguru ji ka Khalsa, Vahiguru ji ki Fatih!
The Sikh Research Institute (SikhRI) team joins the global Sikh community in commemorating 18 September as the Gurgaddi Divas, Coronation Day, of Guru Angad Sahib.
Within the incredible journey of Guru Angad Sahib, we discover the remarkable story of Bhai Lahina, a devout follower of Vaishno Devi. He was more than a mere worshipper; he held a position of great respect in his community, leading fellow devotees on their annual pilgrimage to the temple of the divine goddess. However, the Command had different plans for him. One day, as he led a group of worshippers, he encountered Bhai Jodha, a devoted Sikh of Guru Nanak Sahib, singing praises to the Divine. Intrigued by these stirring words, Bhai Lahina's heart ignited with curiosity. He decided momentously to leave behind the worshippers he had led for years and embarked on a journey towards the Guru's sanctuary.
This transformation was nothing short of miraculous and profound. Bhai Lahina's greatness lay in his willingness to receive and his ability to recognize the divine power within those sacred verses. His entire life underwent a profound shift as he abandoned his past to serve Guru Nanak Sahib. He willingly surrendered his 'self' and, in return, received the radiant wisdom from Guru Nanak Sahib.
Guided by the profound wisdom of Guru Nanak Sahib, the enthroned Guru Angad Sahib established the city of Khadur Sahib. Here, he painstakingly institutionalized the Gurmukhi script, a gift to humanity that granted equal access to literacy, especially the wisdom in Gurbani. The creation of this script was not a mere endeavor in crafting letters; it asserted Sikhi's sovereign identity. Furthermore, Guru Angad Sahib encouraged his Sikhs to nurture their physical fitness and expertise in combat through wrestling.
The narrative of Guru Angad Sahib, from Bhai Lahina to Guru Angad Sahib, serves as a powerful testament to the transformative power of faith, humility, and surrender. Events in the lives of the Gurus, such as this, inspire us to reach new heights of conviction and delve deeper into our inner calling.
