6th Month Update: Your Contributions Empower Us - 30th June 2016

June 30, 2016

Vahiguru ji ka Khalsa, Vahiguru ji ki Fatih! Thank you, on behalf of the Sikh Research Institute, for your continuous support and commitment in making SikhRI’s vision your vision. I am delighted to share with you a brief update on the key projects the SikhRI team has been focused on as of recently.

We have been actively working on improving SikhRI’s new platform through brand positioning and the development of a modern website. This will provide SikhRI with the opportunity to engage with new audiences and make lasting connections through open-minded language and evolving approaches.

As part of advancing Sikhia, SikhRI’s online educational platform, the team has made tremendous efforts in developing new virtual courses for the global community. We recently celebrated the launch of Mul Mantar, a comprehensive self paced online course created by our innovative team. This course offers an analysis of the Mul Mantar, the core of the Sikh ideology on which the entire edifice of Gurmat framework is founded on. Grammar of Gurbani is also available online and is focused on developing a better understanding of the Guru Granth Sahib Ji through building Gurbani language skills. Our 3rd resource is an enriching summer curriculum for children. The course material is dedicated to learning the history and profound wisdoms of Guru Granth Sahib Ji and can be easily accessed for use at schools, camps or in the family home. Through the diverse selection of online material, we encourage all to learn about Sikh heritage, theology and history.

April was an exciting month for SikhRI, as our team facilitated a number of diverse events throughout the Sikh Heritage Month celebration in Ontario. From drop-in sessions to learn about Sikh Canadian role models, to art based workshops focused on tapping into your inner strength, to a presentation discussing the breadth and depth of the Sikh experience, and not to mention the Sikhi inspired arts and crafts for children. I am inspired by all the hard work and dedication shown by the team, allowing SikhRI’s impact to be engaging, inspiring and informative.

I am also pleased to share that in May 2016, SikhRI partnered with the Malaysian Young Leaders Initiative, a wing of the Coalition of Malaysian Sikh Organizations to bring Kultar’s Mime to Malaysia. This deeply touching play tells the stories of Sikh children who lived through the 1984 Delhi Massacre. It was first presented by SikhRI at Harvard University in September 2014 and has been performed seventy-one times, in six countries, and has been seen by more than fourteen thousand people worldwide.

In our 13-year history, this year marked the first ever gathering of the entire North American SikhRI team. From May 5th to 8th, we gathered in New Jersey for SikhRI’s annual board retreat and meeting. The weekend was dedicated to training and strategy workshops designed to overcome challenges and embrace the opportunities available to SikhRI. Our team has a renewed sense of cohesion for SikhRI’s vision and mission for the future.

With your incredible support and generosity, partners like yourself are investing in connecting the world with the teachings of Sikhi. Your valuable contribution will provide the resources needed by the SikhRI team to continue serving the global community through developing an abundance of accessible educational resources, facilitating workshops and plays to encourage progressive and open discussion.

Please do not hesitate to reach out to me with any questions, concerns or ideas you may have.In gratitude, Inni Kaur, CEO
