Annual Report – 2017

January 1, 2018

In 2017, SikhRI launched the State of the Panth series of rigorous but accessible research papers, exploring the notions of Sikh identity and marriage. Our research work has been praised by academics and students of Sikhi alike.

Taking over as the Board Chair in June 2017 was a humbling and touching experience — a whole new stage of growing as a Sikh. My journey with SikhRI started years prior, when I attended one of its day- long programs and realized I learned more in six hours than in my 18 years at Amritsar. I then began to volunteer, using every opportunity to learn more.

Turned out, to accomplish its vision, SikhRI required a strong financial foundation and needed my skills just as much as I needed SikhRI to continue on my own path of exploring Gurbani. I was asked to join the Advisory Council, then the Board soon after, and now became its Chair.

Attending regional SikhRI events throughout 2017, I was taken aback by the amount of people discussing the ways Sidak has completely transformed their lives. Continuing for 15 years straight, our leadership program Sidak has now produced a whole generation of curious learners, and we only intend to grow the program in the future.

As a research institute, we also noticed a lack of rigorous research that met the quality standards
of academia but was still accessible to the general public. To fulfill this need, we started the State of the Panth series and produced two reports in 2017, inquiring into the community perception of Sikh identity and marriage.

All this was made possible by the dedicated team
at SikhRI under the leadership of Inni Kaur. It was
her vision and desire to create change in how Sikh education was taught and accessed by people willing to learn worldwide that drove the aforementioned changes in the organization.

Finally, it has always been the case that the foundation which allows us to remain focused on
our mission year-to-year is created by your generous contributions. On behalf of the Board of Directors and the SikhRI team, I say thank you to every one of you who support us and continue to sustain our work.

We look forward to your engagement with us via
tan, man and dhan and in turn aspire to meet the expectations and responsibility bestowed upon us to spread the Love and enable Panth ki Jit and Sarbat ka Bhalla!
