Introduction to Sabad Kirtan - 22nd December 2017

Sikh Research Institute is pleased to announce the release of a new course, Introduction to Sabad Kirtan.

The online course is based on traditional style of kirtan learning and is designed from a beginner’s perspective. No background in kirtan and Indian classical music is needed. Bhai Kultar Singh, Hazuri Ragi of Sis Ganj and Bangla Sahib Gurduara, will explain the basics of kirtan and provide detailed steps for learning a rag and sabad. By the end of the course, the student will know the basics of Sabad Kirtan including relation between Gurbani and rags, fundamentals of vocal singing, rhythm (tal), notation system and learn simran of Satinam Vahiguru as well as one sabad in rag.

The course is divided into 12 chapters, and will be covered in 12 weeks. Each chapter has text lessons along with audio or video clips followed by quiz and reference material. The weekly phone call with the instructor will provide a platform to discuss course related queries.

Course Duration: 12 weeks

The first batch starts December 23, 2017.
