July 17, 2013
Bridgewater, NJ

Next week Sikh Research Institute (SikhRI) will launch its flagship Sojhi Gurmat & Panjabi Education Resource for free online download on the Sikh Educators Network (SEN) site.

SEN is a global hub for collaboration among educators, administrators and parents. The lesson plans have been edited and updated for 2013.

The first phase of Sojhi curriculum online will allow free downloads of individual lessons or complete sets of Boli (language)and Virsa (heritage) lesson plans by grade level for Kindergarten through second grade. In total, 156 lesson plans for these three grade levels are being made available for the community to use! This release is generously sponsored by Gurdwara Baba Makhan Shah Lobana Sikh Center, Inc. of Richmond Hill, NY.

Khalsa schools and parents worldwide are encouraged to try out portions of this curriculum in their classrooms and homes. “Putting the Sojhi curriculum and teaching resources online to be utilized by educators around the world is a critical step in strengthening our communities through access to high quality Sikh educational content,” said Kulvir Singh, SikhRI’s board member who leads the programs committee.

The lesson plans will officially go live on SEN on 23 July 2013 to coincide with the Prakash Purab of Guru Harikrishan Sahib, Sikhi’s “bala pritam” (beloved child)Guru. SikhRI Director of Education Jasmine Kaur discusses in this video how providing tools like Sojhi to increase education in the classroom and at home are key goals of the SikhRI educational team.

With subsequent launches of phases two and three of Sojhi online coming shortly, all Boli and Virsa lesson plans for grades Kindergarten through eight will be available for download at no cost. SikhRI is seeking sponsors for these next phases to provide the gift of education to our children worldwide.
