The SikhRI Communiqué - 8th January 2017

January 8, 2017

As 2017 begins, we at SikhRI are excited about the year ahead. The year past expanded our horizons and allowed us to do more than we thought was possible. This year, our focus will be devoted to our community.

First, all SikhRI programs are continuing at their pace. New online courses launching this year are Barah Mah, Sidh Gosht, and Guruship in Sikhi.

Grateful and delighted by the response we got from Sundays with Prof. Puran Singh, we are introducing an additional series with a new thinker. Born in 1909, Sirdar Kapur Singh was an eminent Sikh philosopher, theologian, politician, and a prolific writer of the twentieth century. As a distinguished linguist, he had a mastery over English, Gurmukhi, Persian, Arabic, and Sanskrit. Follow us closely on social media this year and don’t miss Thursday Thoughts with Sirdar Kapur Singh.

SikhRI’s mission is to illuminate through presenting Gurbani the way it is. Harinder Singh and I have been working on a new project we call Sabad of the Week. Every week we will publish a beautiful and profound Verse from Guru Granth Sahib, accompanied by its audio version.

SikhRI has also started this year expanding its knowledge into the art world by collaborating with curators and cultural institutions.

On December 30, 2016, in Bihar Museum, Patna, Panjab Digital Library unveiled their new exhibition titled ‘Emperor-Prophet’: Guru Gobind Singh Sahib, for which SikhRI curated the content. It is a tribute to Guru Gobind Singh Sahib’s 350th Prakash Purab (Illumination Day) commemorations. The theme, Emperor-Prophet, depicts the Guru’s life and legacy from primary and secondary sources with descriptions in English, Panjabi and Hindi.

We’ve also collaborated with Art of Punjab on their upcoming year-long travelling exhibit, Khalsa Consciousness: Celebrating the life and legacy of Guru Gobind Singh, to celebrate the 350th year of the Tenth Sovereign. The exhibition will be unveiled January 2017 and feature new paintings on the life of Guru Gobind Singh and his legacy, which has inspired so many great Sikhs from his time to ours.

Finally, we have a new look for our Dates in Sikh History series that we publish regularly on our social media. Expect to see the updated design soon.

I want to thank all of you for your ongoing support. Without you none of our plans would come to reality. I would love to hear your comments, suggestions, and feedback. Reach out and let me know how we are doing.

Lastly, I wish each and every one of you an enriching year, as we commemorate the 350th anniversary of the Prakash Utsav of Guru Gobind Singh Sahib.

With love,
