Grammar of Gurbani

Grammar of Gurbani (GoG) online course offers an investigation into the elementary linguistic characteristics of the Guru Granth Sahib. It is a distinctive learning program for those who wish to develop a better understanding of the Guru Granth Sahib through building Gurbani language skills by lessons in major identifiable grammatical patterns of the Guru Granth Sahib.

The course offers unique opportunity to English-speaking adults in the diaspora to engage with the message of the Guru at a more personal level by developing language skills in Gurbani. With the help of this program participants should find it helpful in interpreting Gurbani independently to enhance their understanding of Gurmat (Guru’s wisdom) and thus experience the Guru’s message first hand.

The course covers major elements of Gurbani grammar in the form of pre-recorded video lesson and accompanying reading material for offline personal reading and quizzes to test and practice the skills acquired in through the course. The course cover all parts of speech, inflection categories, case types and emerging patterns. There is also a discussion board, where students can post their questions and discuss in the group as well.

It is a certificate course and participants shall be evaluated based on their quiz attempts.

Qualifications/Prerequisites

• Easy comprehension of Gurmukhi script
• Language skills
• Basic conversational Panjabi

Note: The program is an introductory course for intermediate level learner who can comfortably read Gurbani with a certain degree of comprehension ability as well. Grammar of Gurbani in a slightly technical course that required prior knowledge/skills in Gurmukhi script and to certain extent Panjabi language.
