Reverence

May 30, 2023

Vahiguru ji ka Khalsa, Vahiguru ji ki Fatih!

In a fast-paced and constantly evolving society, where instant gratification and self-centeredness often take precedence, reverence seems antiquated or even forgotten. Yet, at its core, reverence remains an essential pillar of human experience, capable of fostering a deeper connection to the world and enriching our lives.

In the second stanza of Lava, Guru Ramdas Sahib makes us aware of bringing “reverence” into our lifestyle. The Guru says the human-bride (seeker) has acquired reverence for the All-Pervasive, sung the virtues of the All-Pervasive, and sees the All-Pervasive Beautiful as present before her. The All-Pervasive, Beautiful Sovereign, is pervading within all beings and permeating all places.

We pause.
What is this “reverence”?
How can we acquire it?

The “reverence” mentioned in the stanza is born from the transformation that occurs when the individual allows themselves to be chiseled by the Guru-Wisdom. It results from deep love, devotion, and surrender to the Beautiful Being, the 1. As the chiseling continues, the individual experiences a shift in their mindset. The fears and attachments that typically govern human life, such as the fear of losing wealth, relationships, and power, dissipate. This transformation is the power of Nam, Identification with IkOankar, 1Force, the One, which is the sweetness that eliminates fears and removes bitterness and flavorlessness from life. It also cleanses the ego and removes negative influences.

The “reverence” within the individual enables them to perceive and acknowledge the presence of the Beautiful Being in everything, both within and outside themselves. It leads them to recognize the One as their Owner and cultivates a deep connection with Wisdom-inspired beings who also Identify with the One. In the company of such beings, the individual sings songs of love and joy, merging with the One.

The emergence of “reverence” within the individual leads to a deeper connection with the One and a heightened perception of the presence of the Beautiful Being.

Do we want to bring that “reverence” into our relationship? A reverence that will lead us to return to become part of the Beautiful Being?

May we yearn to become a part of the Beautiful Being.
May the Wisdom-Guru guide us!
