Harinder Singh is the Co-Founder & Innovation Director at SikhRI. He appears on radio and television programs and speaks at universities, parliaments, museums, conferences, and civic institutions. He has authored several books and articles integrating the political and the spiritual.

“Everything starts in the Sikh culture from Guru Nanak Sahib. And when Guru Nanak references the word Vai-sakhi, he actually brings it out of nature. Sak is a branch. If you look at humanity as being the tree symbolism, this is about the branch of the tree. A new branch is coming out in life. …… And when Guru Nanak Sahib invokes that, he says, ‘In this new branch, which is coming out in Spring, in the month of mid-March to mid-April, and that’s starting the 1-Vaisakh, we are looking for the Beloved’…if we don’t have Beloved in our lives, we are dry. We are looking to end that separation….” he says.

This concludes the Countdown to Vaisakhi Series. Over the course of the past two weeks, the SikhRI team has shared their perspectives on Vaisakhi. Featuring speakers unique in their backgrounds, countries, and experiences, we hope the “Countdown to Vaisakhi” video series inspired you to reflect on your personal connection to Vaisakhi.
