This composition by Bhagat Ravidas is in Rag Siri, an ancient musical mode sung at dusk. Its mood is majestic, reflective, and meditative.

The reflection: When a relationship becomes one’s essence, only then does a conversation of such intimacy occur between the devotee and the Beloved.

You and I, I and You; what’s the difference?
Like gold and its bracelet; like water and its wave. 1.

If we did not transgress, O Infinite!
How would Nam be the Redeemer? 1. Reflect.

You the Commander, are the Knower.
Divine and votary recognize each other. 2.

I seek this wisdom—let the body remember;
Can someone teach Ravidas, ‘The One’ pervades everyone equally? 3.

About Sabad of the Week

We are finite; our understanding is finite. Our understanding was different yesterday and may evolve tomorrow as we deepen our relationship with the Sabad. In this trans-creation, we have chosen to keep the repeating words in the Sabad same. We aspire to learn and retain the Divine attribute used in the original Sabad and avoid terms like God or Lord.
