In our final session of the series, we will look at the immediate aftermath of June and November 1984. We will discuss the rebuilding of the Akal Takht Sahib. We will look at what life was like for Sikhs after November 1984 in the rest of India.

We will look at what life was like for Sikhs after November 1984 in the rest of India. Operation Woodrose and the militarization of Panjab will be discussed. Finally, we will briefly look at the start of the Khalistan movement.

About the Series

In this course, we will provide a detailed account of what occurred in June and November 1984, looking at the events from a Sikh perspective. We will explore not only what happened day by day but also the larger significance of the events. After detailing what occurred in June and November 1984, we will turn to the immediate aftermath of 1984 and try to put into context events like Operation Woodrose and the rise of the Khalistan movement.

Santbir Singh is a Research Associate with SikhRI. He is currently doing his Ph.D. in Sociology at York University.
