In the second session, we will keep looking at June 1984, but change our focus from Amritsar to the entire state of Panjab.

We will look at the shutdown and closing of Panjab to the outside world. We will examine the attack on dozens of other Gurduaras around the state, as well as the issue of Sikh army personnel who mutinied. We will also look at what Sant Jarnail Singh Khalsa Bhindranwale’s plan was in case of an attack.

About the Series

In this course, we will provide a detailed account of what occurred in June and November 1984, looking at the events from a Sikh perspective. We will explore not only what happened day by day but also the larger significance of the events. After detailing what occurred in June and November 1984, we will turn to the immediate aftermath of 1984 and try to put into context events like Operation Woodrose and the rise of the Khalistan movement.
