What is the presentation about? The presentation examines some themes in Guru Nanak's Japji Sahib, particularly the role of Hukam -- how does it intersect with our individual lives and what might it mean to live in Hukam. We will also visit the Japji Sahib's prescription of attentive listening as a tool for self-transformation and also delve into the social consequences of such a transformation. Finally, we will look at the toolbox Guru Nanak has bequeathed us to move from manmat (psychological lead) to Gurmat (spiritual gold). Who is the presenter? Ravinder Singh Taneja is the founder and convener of The Talking Stick, an online colloquium devoted to dialogue around Gurbani. It appears every week on Sikchic.com
Panjab Digital Library (PDL) is a voluntary initiative to digitize manuscripts, paintings, photographs, books and other printed or hand written material to preserve heritage. During the course of digitizing more than six million pages, PDL explored unknown treasures of heritage. These treasures familiarize the unfamiliar past in minute details which turn out to be a chance of happiness and sadness, simultaneously. The photographs clicked by Bhai Dhana Singh during his bicycle tour to different shrines in 1930s open a window to a different past. He might not have been aware of the fate of those shrines in near future but he has documented the heritage which not only provides a glimpse of the past but also incite to think about their present status. During last eight decades most of the buildings have been demolished or deteriorated without much care. Out of 200 photographs, Davinder Singh and Daljit Ami will share 15 to revisit those shrines which were frozen in frames. And hopefully move the agenda beyond apathy to connect with the real Panjabi roots.

Since opening its doors to families in need in September 2010, the Seva Food Bank has distributed over 100,000 lbs of food to more than 400 families. Find out how a group of young Sikh-Canadians set out to create a permanent institution that brings together the local community to put the Sikh ideals of seva and sarbat da bhalla into service. Over the past century, SGPC and ancillary institutions evolved in Punjab in response to sociopolitical needs and realities of the day. Times have changed and Sikhs now have a worldwide presence. We now need models of self-governance and accountability that successfully knit the Sikhs into a functioning whole that reflects our existence across the world. The question is: What model to create that remains true to our history and traditions while nurturing our existence in a complex global reality.
