The Guru Granth Sahib Project is pleased to launch the annotation of one Sabad (Infinite-Wisdom) and three pauris (stanzas) of a Var (ballad) by Guru Arjan Sahib in Rag Basant. Rag Basant is a season-specific rag (musical mode) that evokes the spring season's joy, excitement, and cheerfulness.

What was the world that Jassa Singh was born into?

Jassa Singh was born in 1718 in Ahlu near Lahore when it was not safe to be a Sikh. The Mughal Empire controlled most of South Asia at this point. It was increasingly difficult for the Sikhs as they were being hunted.
