Only the Heart Knows

Guru Arjan Sahib in Rag Dhanasare

True freedom comes when inner doubt dissolves. Guru Arjan Sahib urges us to stop pretending, walk in truth, and align with the One who sees all.

Guru Arjan Sahib reminds us that while we may deceive others—or even ourselves—the One who dwells within sees all. The path to liberation is not paved with appearances or clever façades but with truth, self-honesty, and inner alignment. Until the doubts of the mind dissolve, true freedom remains out of reach. This reflection invites us to look inward, shed duplicity, and walk in Hukam, the Divine Order. Compassion, not condemnation, is the force that draws us back to the path. May we stop pretending and begin transforming.

‍People try to deceive others, but the Inner-Knower, the Searcher of hearts, knows everything.
They commit transgressions and then deny them while they pretend to be in nirvana. ||1||
They believe that You are far away, but You are near at hand.
Looking around, this way and that, the greedy people come and go. ||Reflect||
As long as the doubts of the mind are not removed, liberation is not found.
Says Nanak: Saint, devotee, humble being, is one on whom the Divine bestows compassion. ||2||5||36||

Reflection

The Guru’s Voice today is crystal clear—sharp and penetrating.

Clever tricks. Deceptions. A saintly robe. A serene smile. These may deceive the world for a time. But not the One. The Inner-Knower. The Searcher of hearts. Nothing escapes that Gaze.

You may fool others. You may even fool yourself. But you cannot fool the One who resides within you.

So look within. Really look. Search. Acknowledge. Correct. Stop the performance. Start the transformation.

Walk the Teachings. Live in Hukam—in alignment with the natural, Divine Order. Because:

Freedom is not possible until the doubts of the mind dissolve.

As long as falsehood builds walls, the light cannot enter. As long as we carry inner duplicity, we remain bound—pretending, posturing, and restless.

But when the wall of falsehood breaks, When we stop searching outside, When we become honest with ourselves— True liberation materializes.

The Guru offers no condemnation, only clarity: It is compassion that awakens a being to walk the path.

My ardas: Grace me with Your Incessant Presence. May my doubts dissolve like mist at dawn. May I live in honesty—with myself and with You. May I no longer seek appearances but alignment. May I walk the path—not pretend to. Let freedom flow where truth is lived.

About the Series

Sabad is Infinite; we are very finite. This is our understanding at the moment, which was different yesterday and may evolve tomorrow, as we deepen our relationship with the Sabad. In this trans-creation, we have chosen to keep the repeating words in the Sabad same. We aspire to learn and retain the Divine attribute as used in the original Sabad and avoid terms like God or Lord.
