Please join us in celebrating the life and contributions of Prof. Puran Singh. The event is open to anyone who wishes to gain a deeper understanding of the eminence of Puran Singh as a poet, thinker, and scientist. Parents are also encouraged to invite their children (13+), currently in a stage of connecting with and building the foundational knowledge of their Sikh heritage.
In this workshop, we provide context on the logic and reasoning behind why the Guru's and Sikhs did what they did. What inspired the faith to start? What were the social, political, economic settings of the time? How do we draw inspiration from this into our own lives?

In this workshop, we provide context on the logic and reasoning behind why the Guru's and Sikhs did what they did.
Gurbani is rich in references to numerous faith traditions; the Vedik text is one among the prominent. For a long time there has been a raging debate, among different schools of interpretation, over the extent to which Gurbani's reference to Vedik texts is a contextualization of the existing ideas with respect to Sikhi, or a wider endorsement of the thought and worldview contained in it. This debate assumes significance, since it has profound impact on how Gurbani is interpreted, to arrive at a Gurmat perspective.

It took me about two years to go through each verse. Many legal pads were filled. To make sense of my notes, I ended up with a pale translation of this exquisite bani. Needless to say, the bani of Anand Sahib had a profound effect on me. It changed me and continues to chisel me. Sikhi is a lived experience. I share my reflections in that spirit.
