There is a deeply profound sentiment tied to martyrdom in Sikhi as well as in many other faiths groups. Throughout the ages, we have seen challenging circumstances of oppression that have chosen to desecrate the bodies of those who address it.
What is the language of violence? How do we find language for translating the unspeakable? Who speaks for those who suffer violence?
Join panelists Dr. Anokh Singh, Dr. Bavenjit Kaur, and clinical counselor Palwinder Kaur Gill, who will draw on their personal and professional experience to engage in conversation: What problems with alcohol look like in Sikh communities; why they occur; common challenges folks face when engaging with the healthcare system, and how we can harness hope, empathy, and Sikhi when we are struggling.
The world knows a Guru to be an influential teacher, spiritual master, or popular expert. The Sikh world refers to ten founder personalities as well as the Guru Granth and the Khalsa Panth as the Guru. Guru Nanak Sahib considered “Sabad” to be the Guru. This conversation will dive deep into the Sikh context of what Guru is, “Gurgaddi” as the enthronement to the status of the Guru in Sikh tradition, and how the eternal co-Guruship came about by the Command of Guru Gobind Singh Sahib to Granth-Panth. Within a month of this conversation are the first Prakash of Guru Granth Sahib and its Gurgaddi, Gurgaddi Purabs of Guru Nanaks II, IV, V & VIII.

This Sidak course provides participants aged 18-40 a 2.5 hour per day learnings for 5 days. Each day will consist of a Hukam reflection, an interactive themed activity, and a learning session. It explores what it really means to be in love and how it reflects in our relationships from Gurbani's perspective. It expands on the thesis taking examples from Sikh history and lifestyle, while addressing conflicts of love, family and relationships in life today.
The presentation draws on a qualitative and comparative study of financial abuse among the Indian and Anglo-Celtic community in Australia. Drawing on women’s past experience of family violence, Supriya Singh will describe how the gender of money, that is the way men and women perceive, use, inherit, manage and control money, shapes the experience of financial abuse among Anglo-Celtic and migrant Indian women in Australia.

This “Khalsa in Sri Gur Sobha” webinar will explore the Khalsa ideals, values and conduct to mark the Vaisakhi commemorations. Sri Gur Sobha is a significant source of Sikh history written by Guru Gobind Singh Sahib’s court poet Sainapat in 1711. The focus will be on three chapters entitled Command Illuminated (Bacan Pragas), Command Reflected (Bacan Bicar), and Lifestyle Illuminated (Rahit Pragas).

Gurbani is rich in references to numerous faith traditions; the Vedik text is one among the prominent. For a long time there has been a raging debate, among different schools of interpretation, over the extent to which Gurbani's reference to Vedik texts is a contextualization of the existing ideas with respect to Sikhi, or a wider endorsement of the thought and worldview contained in it. This debate assumes significance, since it has profound impact on how Gurbani is interpreted, to arrive at a Gurmat perspective.
