The Ghallugharas of 1984

In June of 1984, the Indian army launched an attack not only on the Sri Harimandar Sahib & Akal Takht Sahib Complex but on over 108 other Gurduaras around Panjab. In November of 1984, Sikhs were attacked across India in state-organized massacres. The events of 1984 have been monumentally consequential for the global Sikh community. They transformed many lives, and the repercussions of these events are still being felt today.

Honoring Sikh Resilience and Remembrance

Learning about 1984 is difficult for any age. For students, we must be careful and considerate when teaching these difficult and traumatic events. This lesson plan aims to introduce the events of 1984 in a way that allows students to appreciate the resilience and strength of Sikhs while paying homage to those who lost their lives in those horrific days.
